Ric Peterson’s NWCASConference/Museum of Flight Video
President's Message
As I write this in the beginning of April, we are well into the 2009 airshow season in the southern states. Although our countries are in the throes of an economic crisis, and wondering where it will lead, airshow attendance is up by a good percentage. Folks are staying around home, and airshows are certainly a home town event. Our February conference in Seattle this year was very productive. The Friday safety conference was filled to capacity. Saturday’s education sessions with Mark Miller’s tactics on dealing with the media, John Haak again showing us the easy way to get customers to buy tickets for the show, and Ric Peterson’s introspective approach to past airshow memories. Safety is on everyone’s plate. We tend to think of performer safety, but the insurance companies know that most claims happen because of ground accidents. Golf carts and anything else that moves are potential hazards to safety. A good safety management system (SMS) with a goal to manage risks as effectively as possible brings a healthy safety culture; one in which everyone in all facets of the production do the right thing even when no one is watching. Our goal is bring a profitable, safe, and entertaining airshow to all involved in the process. Bud Granley |
